Every cool guy has nicknames that his friends give him that he wears with pride. The guy am dating is the coolest of the cool so he’s got tones of them from different circles of friendships. In this blog I will not refer to him by his real name. I will use nicknames (it’s just my choice or preference to do so). His initials are CZM. His pseudo-names include but are not restricted to:

“the General” – from our good friend DKK

“Chalesi” – also from DKK J

Czar/Tsar, Adon, BS, Loce, my good friend – from myself

Muchayi nshimbi – mosbini (to be said in full)

The most famous of them all being Zex

Ps: Kombe gave him the title “the General” after we watched some Japanese soapy series whilst in 3rd year at uni. The lead character was the general and the main roles were the wives of the king.

I came across this story a long time ago and then again in a book am reading…  so i decided to share it here.

According to a traditional folk tale, once there were three little trees, all with big dreams. The first tree dreamed of being carved into a beautiful and ornate treasure box that would hold the greatest treasure the world had ever seen. The second tree dreamed of being fashioned into a great ship that would sail the Seven Seas. The third tree didn’t want to leave its home on the mountaintop. “I want to grow so tall that when people stop to look at me,” he said, “they’ll raise their eyes to heaven and think of God.”

One day when the young saplings had grown into tall, strong trees, three woodcutters climbed the mountain. As they cut down the first tree, it could barely contain its excitement—it just knew it would soon fulfill its destiny. But instead of an elaborate treasure chest, workers made the tree into a plain, ordinary feedbox for farm animals. The tree felt bitterly disappointed. The second tree got made into a ship, all right—but not the kind to crest the waves of mighty oceans. It became just a simple fishing vessel, floating in a lake—not the stuff dreams are made of. The third tree, to its horror and dismay, also got chopped down, cut into wooden beams, and then left to gather dust in a lumberyard. “All I ever wanted was to stay on the mountaintop and point to God,” it moaned.

Time passed and the trees forgot their dreams, until one night when a young woman placed her baby in the animal feedbox—and the first tree knew that indeed it carried the greatest treasure on earth. Another night, a tired man and his friends crowded onto the little fishing boat. They got halfway across the lake when a terrible storm blew in, threatening to tear the boat to pieces. The tired man stood up and said, “Peace, be still.” The second tree knew then that it was carrying the King of heaven and earth. One Friday morning the third tree felt itself yanked from the woodpile and dragged through city streets, where crowds shouted insults. The tree felt cruel and ugly when it realized it had become an instrument of torture. Soldiers nailed a man’s hands and feet to its beams. But on Sunday morning, when the sun rose and the earth trembled with joy, the tree stood tall, knowing that from now on, it would forever point people to God.

In this story I see God being faithful even when the trees had lost hope and were disappointed and had forgotten all about their dreams. God was there in the background weaving it all together, when they were chopped down and feeling useless and rejected. He knew their end. Right now, my life is going according to MY plan but I know that God is working out His plan and that it is glorious!! Its not an easy thing to hand over the reins of your life to someone else but whom better than our creator. My cousin Muna always says “living by His design and not default”. So every day in the morning I say – Lord, I trust You.

She stood at the foot of the cross and gazed at the oozing wounds of her baby.

Those who with her saw a man, some a leader, some a prophet, but she saw a child.

She saw a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes. She saw the infant she rocked to bed night after night. She saw a little boys’ first faltering steps. She had loved him.

She had raised him as only a mother can. And now, she stands at Calvary’s hill, giving him up to his Father- the Father she has never seen.

What do you do when you outlive your child and bury the one you thought would bury you? Can you imagine standing by, hearing the clanging of steel against steel, the cheers and jeers of an angry crowd, the dull thud as the heavy timber drops home? Her arms are empty, her heart is aching, her mind is troubled as she watches him writhe in agony, but not make a single cry. He is both her child and Creator. He was the recipient of her milk and the giver of her life. But as she stands at the foot of the Cross, she does not see a king, she sees a child. She gives him back to his Father.

She is MARY, the mother of JESUS CHRIST. She had come to learn the art of losing something she thought she had owned. Her closest companions were her tears as she watched Him give His life away, one breath at a time.

She is any other woman, black, white, young, old, and when her son was crucified, He came to live in her heart — a place she thought would never be His HOME.

Fear of Ageing

Filed under: Uncategorized — Miss Vee @ 2:09 pm

I am grateful that it is socially unacceptable to ask a lady her age. It’s my best kept secret. I don’t want to live long enough to go back to wearing diapers. Witnessing my body malfunction right in front of my very own eyes – scary!!

I take a moment each and every single day to be thankful for mobility in my limbs; perfect vision; good hearing; a circulatory system in good condition; and the filters and purifiers (kidneys, liver, etc.); a working digestive system (as my cousin Dr.Lom says, a crap day keeps the Dr away) doing what they were meant to do, lastly and not the least my forever ticking multi-tasking nervous system.

More than just giving thanks, I put every effort to be healthy. I don’t take it for granted. I use the basics that we’ve been taught since we were 3years old. I eat a balanced diet, and yes it includes vegetables. The more the variety of colour of the food on my plate, the more likely it is to have various nutrients.

I do take supplements which is another discipline on its own. I plan what I’ll eat at the beginning of every month. I envision the different kinds of meals I can prepare and then go shopping. I eat as much fish as possibly not only because I love it but it aids memory.

No – Am not harsh on myself. I eat chocolate, cheese, etc. I take as much fluids as possible especially water. I do not smoke or ingest alcohol. I used to jog but that didn’t take so I walk where I can. I wear sunglasses to protect my eyes. I wear sunscreen and carry lip balm. Due to the unavailability of elevators, I take the stairs. I take time to sleep which is the body’s way of recharging and let myself dream dreams.

Hopefully, prayerfully, I’ll age gracefully.

Are you afraid of ageing? What do you fear most about it?
